Wild About Music is a one-of-a-kind shop in downtown Austin, Texas, dedicated entirely to music-inspired gifts, art, and décor.
Located at 615 Congress Avenue, it has become a go-to stop for both visitors and locals looking to take home something uniquely Austin.
History

The shop’s story began in 1995, when founders Fred Schmidt and Shelley Meyer expanded a small 200-square-foot booth inside the old Bluebonnet Market into their vision of a 5,000-square-foot music-themed art and gift gallery.

Over the years, Wild About Music has moved across several downtown locations, adapting to Austin’s changing landscape while staying true to its mission of celebrating the city’s identity as the “Live Music Capital of the World”.
What You’ll Find

Wild About Music offers a mix of playful and artistic merchandise, including:
- Apparel, jewelry, and home décor inspired by music.
- Art pieces by both regional and national artists, spanning painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
- Boutique instruments such as guitars and ukuleles, alongside fun “emergency musician supplies.”

The shop’s colorful storefront on Congress Avenue is instantly recognizable and has become something of a local landmark.

Cultural Role
Unlike record shops such as Waterloo Records, Wild About Music isn’t about albums or gear, it’s about creativity and lifestyle.

By curating gifts and artwork that highlight the spirit of music, the shop offers a tangible way to connect with Austin’s culture. For many visitors, it’s as much an experience as it is a store.
